YSR Congress moves High Court for poll observer
YSRC alleged TD earlier played ‘tactics’ in postponement of ZP elections twice
Hyderabad: Members of the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies belonging to the YSR Congress of the Nellore district on Tuesday moved the Hyderabad High Court, seeking appointment of a judicial officer as an observer to oversee the election process for the posts of Zilla Parishad chairman and vice-chairman, Nellore district, to be held on July 20.
B. Anil Kumar Reddy and 22 other ZPTC members of the district moved the plea, urging the court to direct the State Election Commission to make arrangements for appointing a special observer for conducting the polls.
The petitioners apprehended that the ruling Telugu Desam members would again resort to “misuse of official machinery and prevent them from casting their vote in the elections. They alleged that the ruling party has earlier played ‘tactics’ in postponement of these elections twice.
They prayed the court to restrain the police from acting on the false complaints that are likely to be lodged by the ruling party to apprehend them alleging false and frivolous complaints of abduction against them and whisk them away under the guise of recording their statements before completion of election process.
