Violence stalls Amarnath Yatra

59 people were injured and about 400 tents were torched and razed

Srinagar: The Amarnath pilgrimage from shorter Baltal route was suspended on Friday following clashes between local facilitators and langar (free kitchen) managers.

As many as 59 people were injured and about 400 tents, makeshift shops and a dozen langars besides a load-carrier were torched and razed. The injured include 12 CRPF and 9 local police jawans.

Police has arrested six person including two CRPF jawans, reports said. But officials did not confirm arrest of CRPF jawans. No yatri has been injured, police said, adding that the pilgrimage has, been suspended as a “precautionary measure.”
