Coimbatore: Tarun Reddy’s blazing drive lit up a gloomy day in the third round of the MMSC-National Racing Championship here at the Kari Motor Speedway on Saturday.
The dominant victory in the premier MRF Formula 1600 class helped Tarun establish an eight-point lead over Mumbai’s Advait Deodhar, who came second holding off a spirited challenge from Chennai boy Vikash Anand.
Strong headwind and constant drizzle proved to be a big challenge in all the eight races held. The 10-lap Formula 1600 had Tarun on pole and the 16-year-old with a rich experience of competing in European single-seaters hardly put a foot wrong en route to his fifth victory of the season. The ever-improving Advait managed to keep pace with Tarun for a brief period, but with Vikash breathing down on his neck the Delhi lad had to spend the rest of the race holding on to his spot.
The Superstock category race was the toughest of them all. It started raining on the formation lap and it become more treacherous as the race wore on. But there was no stopping Chennai’s Bala Vijay. He led from start to finish to add one more victory to his kitty. Bengaluru’s Joel Joseph had a race-long battle with his city-mate Deepak Paul Chinappa to finish second.
