Kochi: The Air Customs officers of the Nedumbassery airport on Sunday recovered two gold biscuits weighing one kilogram each concealed in the flush tank of one of the toilets in the airport. The gold biscuits with foreign markings are estimated to have a market value of nearly Rs 60 lakh. They were wrapped with black-coloured adhesive tapes and kept inside two small polythene covers in the flush tank of the Gents’ toilets just before the Immigration counters of the Arrival terminal.
“It appears that some passenger has deposited the gold biscuits inside one of the flush tanks of the Gent’s toilet to be collected by some staff working in the Cochin International airport. The toilet cleaning staff are being questioned and statements obtained. Further probe is on,” said Deputy Commissioner of Customs (Air Intelligence Unit) SAS Navaz.
The seizure was made at 5.30 am by a team of officials led by Navaz during a routine inspection.
