Visakhapatnam: A low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha might lead to heavy rains in Telangana over the next 24 hours.

According to the Indian Met Department, associated upper air cyclonic circulation has extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level which may become a well-marked low-pressure area.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places over Odisha and heavy rainfall may also occur at isolated places over Telangana in the next 48 hours.

Heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh and also in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam of Telangana.

Srikakulam, Krishna, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Mahabubnagar, Adilabad, Warangal, Medak and Karimnagar districts experienced rains in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Monsoon deficit has come down to 31-32 per cent with rains picking up in July, the Centre said on Sunday asserting that there is “no reason to be unnecessarily alarmist”.

“The overall monsoon deficit stands at around 31 per cent,” said Laxman Singh Rathore, director-general of the IMD.
