State-owned NTPC is to establish a 4,000 MW power plant in Telangana
New Delhi: NTPC is awaiting identification of land by the Telangana government and establishment of coal linkage by the Coal Ministry for setting up a 4,000 MW power plant in the new state.
State-owned NTPC is to establish a 4,000 MW power plant in Telangana as per the 13th Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act.
"NTPC is awaiting identification of land by Government of Telangana and establishment of coal linkage by Ministry of Coal, Government of India," Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal today informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has also requested the Prime Minister for additional 500 MW power from NTPC for at least three years out of the central pool.
As of June end, the allocation to Telangana from central generating stations stood at 1,992 MW. Meanwhile, to help Andhra Pradesh meet electricity shortages, the Centre following a request has allocated additional 177 MW from Indira Gandhi STPS, Jhajjar, to the state for the period from July 1 to July 31.
Apart from advising Andhra Pradesh to procure power from the market, Goyal in a separate reply said efforts are "being made to set up an imported coal-based coastal plant in Andhra Pradesh by NTPC".
To a separate query, Goyal said there is no Power Ministry proposal to relax the pollution control norms for mining of coal and for thermal power plants.
