Andhra Pradesh opposes Telangana plea on admissions
The counsel for AP argued that admissions have to continue as a single unit
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday opposed the plea of the Telangana government before the Supreme Court seeking to extend the date of completion of admissions in professional courses till the end of October.
The AP government has contended before a two-member Bench, headed by Justice Sudhansu Jyoti Mukhopadhaya, that the extension of the date for admissions would have adverse effect on hundreds of students belonging to both the states.
The counsel for AP submitted that as per Section 95 of the AP Reorganisation Act, admissions and reservation quotas in education have to be continued for a period of 10 years by both states and neither AP nor Telangana can change the existing pattern on their own.
He argued that admissions have to go on considering both the states as a single unit as per the original schedule.
The counsel for Telangana contended that as Telangana is a new state facing a huge staff crunch, it would be very difficult for the state to complete the admissions as per schedule with skeleton staff.
He said it was becoming difficult to work with shortage of officers and fee reimbursement being a huge subject and urged the court to extend the date of completion of admissions in professional courses till the end of October.
The Bench directed the counsels for the AP and the All India Council for Technical Education to file their counter affidavits and adjourned the hearing to August 4.
