Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the city on Monday affecting Bonalu celebrations, even as devotees thronged temples. A forecast of heavy rains in the next 48 hours has been made for one or two places in the districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram in AP, and Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam in Telangana.

Areas like Dilsukhnagar, Amberpet, Osmania University, Tarnaka, Musheerabad, Secunderabad, Marredpally and others, received heavy rainfall till late in the evening. Bonalu pandals set up at Sitafalmandi were completely ruined causing a lot of inconvenience to the devotees.

Traffic came to a standstill at the junctions around the Secunderabad Railway station. The Station Road, right from the track junction till the Rathifile bus stop, was completely flooded. Many cars broke down.

Meteorological officials said that the low pressure area had rapidly concentrated into a depression and lies centered over North-eastern parts of Odisha and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal. The system would move in a west-northwest direction in the next 24 hours. In the city, rains and thundershowers will continue and the maximum temperature may dip to 29ºC.
