Hyderabad: Thane police once again imposed restrictions on MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi’s visit to the city.

A representative of Thane Police Commissioner Vijay Kamble came to Mr Akbaruddin’s house on Monday and served a notice asking him not to enter the city.

“The letter stated that Akbaruddin should not enter the Thane commissionerate limits from July 20 to July 31 in order to keep peace and tranquility in the city,” said a source from the Majlis party.

The MIM leader, who is known to make controversial speeches, was scheduled to attend Iftar parties at Mumbra, Aurangabad and Mumbai from Tuesday.

Responding to the issue Mr Akbaruddin said that as an Indian citizen and as an elected representative he has every right to visit any part of the country. “I am going to Mumbra only for an Iftar party, and there will be no public meeting. They cannot stop me from breaking my fast and reaching out to my brothers. Our legal team in Thane will challenge this,” Mr Akbaruddin said, adding that he would not cancel his scheduled programmes in Maharashtra.

The Majlis MLA said he had sent a reply to the notice commissioner’s order.

Mr Akbaruddin had earlier approached the Mumbai High Court against the Thane police when they restricted his entry for a political rally in February this year.
