Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet sub-committee has decided to reduce the number of schools to be upgraded to Plus- Two from 101 to 93.
A meeting on Tuesday decided to allot only one batch each in these schools. The sub-committee had met seven times during the last two days before arriving at a decision. Even on Tuesday, the committee met twice.
Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb admitted that there were differences in the sub-committee over the issue.
The government had constituted the sub-committee to consider the sanctioning of additional batches in schools by reducing the burden on the exchequer to the minimum. The new schools will be permitted to appoint only guest lecturers or absorb excess teachers from other schools.
The cabinet earlier had sanctioned new higher secondary schools in 134 panchayats without higher secondary schools in the wake of the High Court
judgement.
