KOCHI: Don’t worry anymore when you need blood for a friend or relative. A new smartphone app called 'Blood Alert' launched on Tuesday by a group of four young entrepreneurs working out of the rural IT park, Technolodge at Kakkur in the district, makes the search for the right donor much easier.
Just type in the blood group you require, your location and contact number, and the app will give you a list of donors living close to you. “The android app that can be downloaded from Google Playstore for free can be used to find a donor anywhere in Kerala,” said Jomin V. George, CEO of HitbytesTechnologies.
The message also travels through other networking platforms including Facebook and WhatsApp, thereby increasing the chances of quick responses. “In view of the rising number of deaths relating to the unavailability of blood on time, especially the rare groups, we hope this will come in handy for the public,” Jomin said.
Jomin, who launched the company along with friends Nithin P. Molethu, Jerish Jose and Sarath Mohan, immediately after finishing the engineering course, said the app would not bring any revenue to the company. “Bridging technology with social service was our only motto,” he reasoned. The four friends did their B Tech at Sreenarayana Gurukulam College of Engineering, Kadayiruppu, near here.
Earlier products of the company included the smart SMS app ‘Chatbox’ (text chatting app) which has already got two crore hits and android app FB Photo (gets you the right picture of a movie with dialogue) which got 50,000 hits in a short span of time. Another product is a game app, also on android platform, named ‘Math Cricket,’ which Jomin said “is similar to the written cricket game we have played in our childhood.”
