THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Prof K V Thomas, is tipped to be the new chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
Prof Thomas filed his papers for the key post on Tuesday after Congress president Sonia Gandhi cleared his name, in keeping with the tradition being given to the Opposition. The PAC comprises 22 members, of which 15 are from LS and 7 from RS.
However, Prof Thomas will have to heed the advice of the PAC members, most of whom will be from the dominant NDA. But, given Prof Thomas experience, the committee can expect a smooth sail within the party politics.
