THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The long-pending Congress organisational elections will begin on August 10.  This was announced by KPCC vice-president M. M. Hassan here on Tuesday. He told reporters that the party had not yet held any talks on the cabinet reshuffle.

Mr Hassan said that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran would  discuss the cabinet shuffle after Mr Chandy returns from New Delhi and Mr Sudheeran from the US.
He also opined that Speaker G.  Karthikeyan had  never run after positions. He  admitted  that there were differences in the party on the closure of 418 bars.

Culture Minister K. C. Joseph, the trusted lieutenant of  Mr Chandy,  dismissed reports that he was likely to become the Speaker when Mr  Karthikeyan steps down.

“The media people are creating  stories according to their imagination. Of course, there are different opinions in the party regarding the Speaker’s post,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr K. Muraleedharan MLA  will leave for New Delhi for talks with the AICC leadership on the cabinet reshuffle, though he said it was a private visit. Congress sources said that Mr Muraleedharan intended  to seek cabinet berths for the Karunakaran loyalists.
