Chennai: Actor Vinay and the makers of Serndhu Polama, the movie which has him playing the lead, have not been on good terms for some time. It is learnt that the actor, missing from the audio launch of the film held in the city recently, was upset about not being allowed to dub in his own voice. Vinay alleges that he was keen on lending his own voice for the film, but the filmmakers roped in a dubbing artist without informing him.
“I have no idea how the film has shaped up,” he says. I was invited for the audio launch too at the last moment. Though my Tamil accent is not perfect, I have improved over the years and everyone has been encouraging me. But this was discouraging. Sundar C, director of Aranmanai, asked me to dub in my own voice and that proves who is right.” Vinay is now awaiting the release of three flicks.
Anil, director of Serndhu Polama, says that he went ahead with the dubbing process after getting permission from the Artists’ Association. “Though Vinay insisted that he would dub in his voice, I felt that his modulation wasn’t apt for the role he was playing. I was concerned only about the outcome of the film. He later complained to the Association and the payment issue was settled. I did not want to come out and speak on this as I don’t want the movie to be mired in controversy. The film may release this month and Vinay has agreed to participate in the promotional activities.” The director who has made around 40 films in Mollywood is making his debut in Kollywood with Serndhu Polama.
