CAT notices to Centre, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana on DGP appointments
Petitioners informed the tribunal that a junior was made AP DGP
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal on Thursday issued notices to the Union of India, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State governments on two petitions by senior IPS officers S.A. Huda and T.P. Das challenging the appointment of Anurag Sharma and J.V. Ramudu as DGPs of Telangana and AP states respectively.
A two-member Bench comprising B.V. Rao and Ranjana Chowdary was hearing the petitions. The petitioners challenged the move of both the state governments in suggesting the names of the DG-rank officers to the Union Public Service Commission to appoint Mr Ramudu and Mr Sharma as regular DGPs even prior to the final allocation of the cadre for both the states.
The petitioners informed the Tribunal that Mr Ramudu, junior to them, was appointed a regular DGP to the AP. They said the DGP in-charge of Telangana, Mr Anurag Sharma was also junior to them.
The Bench issued notices to Mr Ramudu and Mr Anurag Sharma and directed the respondents to spell their stand through counter affidavits within two weeks.
Both officers questioned the criterion followed by the Centre while allocating cadre pertaining to officers of All India Services, particularly IPS officers. The petition will be heard by the tribunal on Friday.
