Mumbai: Keeping the 2015 ICC World Cup in mind, the domestic season will see a major overhaul in scheduling and the calendar is set to kick off with limited overs cricket. The BCCI’s technical committee headed by Anil Kumble which met here on Saturday has recommended that the Vijay Hazare Trophy (national one-dayers) and the Deodhar Trophy (inter-zonal one-dayers) will start before the Ranji Trophy to provide World Cup hopefuls an enough opportunity to perform.
These tournaments will act as trial for the quadrennial event to be held in Australia and New Zealand in February-March next year. The selectors are likely to name 30-man probables in December before naming the final squad close to the tournament. All ICC Playing Conditions pertaining to limited-overs cricket be implemented in domestic matches as well. This includes a new ball from each end, and field restrictions. It means the List A tournaments will also use Duckworth-Lewis rain rule in place of the ‘Jayadevan system’ or commonly called ‘VJD’ method. Also the rule of allowing one bowler to bowl 12 overs in the List A matches won’t be applicable this season.
The technical committee has also decided scrap NKP Salve Challenger Trophy for the current season along with BCCI Corporate Trophy due to cramped schedule.
