Hyderabad: The Telangana government is all set to compensate private medical colleges for any loss they will incur on account of not increasing the MBBS fee this year.

The government is likely to raise management quota seats from the existing 40 per cent seat to 50 per cent. This will be a setback for Eamcet rankers as they would lose 10 per cent of merit quota seats.

The Telangana government has ruled out fee hike this year citing formation of the new state but is in favour of increasing management quota seats to compensate colleges for the loss. The CM is likely to give his approval in a day or two. Colleges have been pitching for an increase in management quota seats.

Medical seats are offered under three categories. While A and B categories refer to 50 per cent and 10 per cent merit quota seats filled through merit in Eamcet for a fees of Rs 60,000 and Rs 2.5 lakh per year respectively, the remaining 40 per cent seats are offered under category-C or management quota, for which the colleges collect donations ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. They now want 10 per cent merit quota under category-B to be transferred to the management quota.
