Religious fervour marks Eid in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

Hyderabad: Religious fervour and gaiety marked the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Tuesday.

Thousands of Muslims offered prayers at Eidgahs and mosques in Hyderabad and elsewhere in the two states as celebrations kicked off to mark the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.

Attired in new clothes, men and children visited Eidgahs and mosques for the prayers and greeted each other and people from other communities.

Major congregations were witnessed at the historic Mir Alam Eidgah, Makka Masjid, Secunderabad Eidgah in Hyderabad.

Big gatherings were also reported in the towns of Nizamabad, Warangal and Mahabubnagar in Telangana and at Kurnool, Anantapur, Vijayawada and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.

Muslims visited friends and relatives to offer greetings. Delicacies like 'sheer khorma' were on the festive fare for Eid.

Police made elaborate security arrangements in both the states to check against any untoward incidents.

Reports, meanwhile, said that the occasion also saw condemnation of the Israeli strikes in Gaza.
