Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has given his nod to the energy department to go for energy-efficiency pump sets for agricultural sector by authorising the Energy Conservation Mission to take up pilot projects in domestic and agricultural sector.

All inefficient pump sets will be replaced with efficient pump sets in a phased manner, a requirement that was pointed out repeatedly by experts as the losses incurred due to the inefficient pump sets had led to siphoning of energy and  wastage of water.

The approval came in response to a proposal made by the State Energy Conservation Mission. Mr Naidu allowed the EESL to carry out a sample survey in Srikakulam, West Godavari, Guntur and Anantapur districts as pilot project for taking up of DSM-based Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) in all households.

The CM also agreed to engage EESL in conducting a sample survey in Rajanagaram mandal of East Godavari district for replacement of inefficient non-ISI pump sets where  feeder segregation takes place.

Based on the sample survey, a detailed project report will be submitted by the EESL on replacement of around 36,000 agricultural pump sets in 13 mandals ensuring transparency and reasonability of prices. The municipal administration is also contemplating setting up  efficient municipal street lighting in places.
