Coimbatore: Legal trouble is brewing for the latest Dhanush movie, Velai Illa Pattadari (VIP), as  old students of the Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya have found his dialogues in the movie defamatory to the institution.

The alumni association of the Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya will move the court for a stay on the screening of the movie until the scene that portrays the institution in poor light is removed, according to  a prominent alumnus of the institution, Dr Kavidasan, Director of Roots Industries India Limited.

In the movie, Dhanush, who plays a jobless engineer,  finds fault with his parents for putting him in Ramakrishna Vidyalaya while his younger brother was sent to a Christian institution.

The anguished students and alumni of Ramakrishna Vidyalaya pointed out that  Dhanush’s father-in-law and supertar Rajini Kanth was a student of Ramakrishna Mission and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had served in the Mission at Rajkot for two years.

An alumnus of the college and an Air Force officer, Venkatesh Prabhu, said that the film should not have mentioned the name of Ramkrishna Mission which is nationally acclaimed and has turned out several IAS officers, scientists and English professors.

However, the staff, students and alumni of Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya have condemned the dialogues that “defamed” the institu-
tion.
