Amit Shah scouting for Keralite in cabinet
Kerala BJP president V. Muraleedharan told DC that he was yet to be informed of such a move
Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP national leadership is keen to give a key position to a Keralite, who is widely accepted by all sections of society, in the Modi ministry, it is learnt. The party has asked the state leadership to find out such a person by the time BJP national president Amit Shah visits Kerala during August 30-31.
A few months back, the state BJP leadership had planned to organise a meeting of all block-level leaders from across the state which was supposed to be attended by Mr Narendra Modi. But due to the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, the meeting was postponed, a BJP leader told DC.
“When Amit Shah comes to the state next month, the priority before the state BJP leadership is to conduct the meeting of booth-level leaders so as to gear up for the local body elections. At the same time, the national leadership is keen on seeing a prominent Malayali in the Modi cabinet,” the leader said.
However, state BJP president V. Muraleedharan told DC that he was yet to be informed of such a move and that the itinerary of Mr Amit Shah would be decided only by early August.
“An informal meeting of senior BJP leaders will be held either on August 5 or 6 which will be followed by a meeting of general secretaries,” he said.
Though senior leader O. Rajagopal’s posting as Governor is still pending before the national leadership, he may be appointed in the next slot of vacancies, it is learnt.
Meanwhile, the RSS state leadership’s two-day meeting held in Kochi to finalise its programme for the next year concluded on Thursday.
Though the first day’s session was exclusively for RSS leaders, Thursday’s meeting was attended by BJP’s general secretary in charge of RSS, K. R. Umakanthan also.
