Chennai: Setting aside their differences, political parties in the state led by DMK rallied behind AIADMK supremo and Chief minister Jayalalithaa in condemning a derogatory article carried by Sri Lankan defence website with an accompanying graphic image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, forcing Colombo to issue an unqualified apology and remove the post.

DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, in a show of camaraderie, has condemned the article and said that though there might be numerous difference of opinion between him and AIADMK chief, the degrading article only shows Lankan government's real intent.

“DMK has never supported such a cheap criticism and it has never failed to condemn such acts as well,” he said, urging the Centre to register its strongest condemnation to the island nation as the article also degraded PM.

BJP's state general secretary Vanathy Srinivasan said: “We should strongly condemn it as it was published in an official website of the Sri Lankan government.” TNCC president B. S. Gnanadesikan took the matter up with the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here and sought removal of the controversial article. IUML state chief K M Khader Mohideen also criticised Sri Lanka for the derogatory article.
