Chennai: The Andhra Pradesh food minister Paratala Sunitha visited Chennai to take a close look at the Amma canteen that has been a huge hit among people for providing inexpensive food. It now appears that the AP government will replicate the canteen project for its people, calling it ‘Anna canteen’ and the Andhra cabinet had also cleared the project aimed at benefitting the public.

The largest Amma canteen in Chennai located at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, is now a role model for foreign delegates and public representatives from other Indian states.

In fact the Chennai corporation officials have started maintaining procedural code at the government general hospital Amma canteen. Under the procedure the delegates will be given a briefing by health officials at  Ripon Buildings and taken to the GH canteen. The delegates will be given first hand experience on food production and maintenance of the canteen.

However the civic officials ensure that the delegates are taken only to the GH Amma canteen given by its size and better maintenance. The corporation team also provides the menu details of the food served along with their price list. They also share their expertise in how self-help groups are roped in for the effective administration of the food outlets and the nuances involved in maintaining and controlling the crowd.

Also, delegates from Egypt had taken details on Amma canteen to implement a similar scheme.
