Lucknow: A photograph showing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav with Moharram Ali, the main accused in the Saharanpur riots who has since been arrested, has sparked off a major controversy.
The photo, posted on the website of Hindi news daily, was reportedly taken on April 1 and lifted from the FB account of an SP leader. The state government, however, termed it as “baseless and misleading.”
“The news related to the photo of the CM with an accused in Saharanpur incident along with other persons is baseless and misleading. The CM meets a number of people every day and in the photo in question, there are a number of people visible. It is wrong to impute motives to the issue and it is against healthy democratic traditions,” the government stated. This is the second time that Mr Yadav has been accused of proximity with riot accused persons.
