Hyderabad: This year, Shristi Art Gallery’s Emerging Palettes, an annual endeavour which showcases the best of graduating art students went national. Seven students from MSU, Baroda were selected to be part of the exhibition which had 17 budding artists, display their artworks.

The exhibition is now in its fifth edition which aspired for an all-encompassing repertoire of art. That’s why, adds Lakshmi Nambiar, that MSU, Baroda, was also invited to be part of the show.

One of the displayed artworks was Girish Chandra Behera’s aptly titled mixed media work, Journey of Life. After his graduation in Odisha, Girish travelled for four years across different art schools in the country, before taking admission for his masters in HCU. He  has drawn images of people waiting on the platform, someone sleeping, a lone  bag and so on all on railway tickets. “Journeys connect people and make us what we are. The years that I travelled moulded me as an individual, and that’s why I have preserved the tickets and used them for my art work,” he says.

Akshata P.N. was the only one who came down from Baroda. Speaking of her art, she says. “I am inspired to find art in mundane objects surrounding us. So when I first moved into this new room, I just placed a tomato basket on a chair and started painting it,” she says.
