Hyderabad: Final data on the number of registered firms in both the states have revealed that Andhra Pradesh lags far behind Telangana.
Undivided AP had 92,584 registered companies and it had initially been estimated that the two new states would have almost the equal number of companies with AP perhaps having a few more.
However, analysis of particulars of unclassified companies registered prior to 1956 and their latest categorisation by the Registrar of Companies at Hyderabad revealed that AP has only 19,673 registered firms as against 73,306 in Telangana.
Even the number of firms transferring base to AP has stopped after bifurcation as it is now an inter-state transfer and involves a lengthy procedures. In the two months after Parliament passed the Bill and before the Appointed Day, around 700 firms had shifted base to AP.
A source in ROC said, “We sorted out the unclassified companies that were registered prior to formation of AP state. There are around 30,000 companies and the registered offices of majority of them are located in Telangana. Even shifting of firms has stopped after the Appointed Day as they now have to undergo a process which is followed in interstate transfer category,”
Most of the firms are located in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts.
According to latest figures of ROC, in June, post bifurcation, around 211 new companies with Rs 36.74 crore authorised capital were registered in AP and 177 with Rs 10.96 crore authorized capital in Telangana.
“The new registrations are almost the same in both the states with a few more in AP. Hyderabad ROC serves both the States. Prior to bifurcation, in May 2014, united AP had stood second in the country after UP in new registrations.”
In May, Uttar Pradesh had 250 (13.97 per cent) newly registered companies, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 237 (13.25 per cent), and West Bengal with 220 (12.30 per cent). In June neither AP nor Telangana were in the top three list of new registrations.
Most of the companies are into business services, manufacturing, trading and real estate. However there have been no new multinational companies registered in both the states.
