Tirupati: The TTD after successfully converting gold received through offerings into gold deposits, is now contemplating to dispose about 40 tonnes of ‘foreign coins’ piled up at the TTD treasury over the years.

Devotees also make various kinds of offerings including gold, silver and bronze ornaments, foreign currency and coins.

While the TTD converts gold, silver and other ornaments into gold deposits, the foreign currency is converted into Indian currency through nationalised banks.

However, the temple administration has been facing difficulties in disposing the foreign coins. With the repeated efforts of the TTD to dispose these coins through e-auction not materialising, it sought the support of the RBI.
