Chennai: Kajal Agarwal, who was last seen in Vijay’s Jilla, has yet again bagged another biggie opposite Dhanush. She confirms to DC that the shoot for the film will commence this October. “I am teaming up with Dhanush and Balaji Mohan for the first time. I immediately agreed to do so as my role has scope for performance and it’s a very interesting script,” says Kajal.
On working with Dhanush, she says, “I missed a chance to work with him in a couple of projects earlier due to date issues, and now I am happy that it has finally happened. He is good performer, and I am looking forward to doing this film with him.” Her Telugu film is also nearing completion; she pairs opposite Ram Charan in it for the fourth time, which affords her a level of comfort and ease. “The film is a complete family entertainer, and it has been a good experience working with Ram.”
After having worked with top Kollywood heroes, was she open to projects with new generation actors, like Vijay Sethupathi or Sivakarthikeyan? “I have been watching all their films in recent times, and they are extremely talented. In fact, they have been choosing scripts in a very sensible way, and they are open to experimenting. I won’t restrict myself to any particular criteria; if the script is good, I will definitely take it up,” Kajal says.
What about item songs? Even top Bollywood actresses were flying down south to perform in them. “I haven’t done any until now, and am too busy shooting for films in all three languages. I respect actresses who are doing item songs, and I may also take them up in future if they offer scope to perform or if the song is really different,” she says.
The actress is also all geared up for the shoot of two Bollywood films. One of them is directed by Sudhir Mishra, the other has Sharman Joshi in the lead. How does she juggle all her varied commitments? “I can’t say it’s difficult as cinema is my life. I love to work hard and am happy to do films in all languages,” she says.
On the personal front, Kajal says she remains as close to her sister as she ever was even after her marriage. “Nothing has changed between us even after her marriage. Whenever we are in the same city, we catch up, and chat about everything. Also, there is not a single day in my life without her phone calls.”
Was she advising her on choosing scripts? “Nisha is fast learner,” she retorts, “and I am sure she does not need any advice. I admire her in many things. But I, being a strong critic, will definitely point out a few mistakes.” Nisha is now shooting for her Malayalam film.
And was Kajal contemplating marriage? “I don’t have any such plans as I am busy with my projects, and I am not seeing anyone either.” There were speculations in recent times that the actress was demanding huge remuneration and lost a project. “There is no truth in it,” she remarks when asked. “I just get what I deserve.”
