High Court seeks report on stray dogs killings

Bench directed the district collector to visit Aratlakatta village and conduct inquiry

Hyderabad: A division bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising of Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday directed the district administration of East Godavari to ensure that stray dogs are not killed violating the law.

The bench was dealing with a PIL by Animal Rescue Organization represented by its secretary Gopal Rao Surabathula alleging that Aratlakatta Gram Panchayat of the district killed the stray dogs in most inhuman way by lethal chemical injection wherein unknown dangerous chemical was used. He placed photographs to show that dogs wee killed and carcasses dragged and buried in road side pits.

The bench directed the district collector to visit Aratlakatta village and conduct inquiry into the allegations and submit a report to the court within three weeks.
