Hyderabad: Public anger against electricity officials was simmering, and finally reached the breaking point on Monday when a farmers agitation against power cuts turned violent in Medak district.

Angered by frequent power cuts, farmers attacked Ramayampet superintending engineer and offices of the electricity department at Toopran.

This was not an isolated incident as electricity employees have been targets of public anger several times in the past. In fact, as per the figures given by the AP Electricity Engineers Association, there have been as many as 120 incidents of public venting out their anger on the employees in the past one year.

“Farmers were angry with power shortage and some had issues regarding release of agricultural connections. As rural areas had been subjected to massive power cuts over the past 10 to 11 months, anger has been seething within the farming community against the power officials,” said an insider.
