Hyderabad: Owing to the decision of the Central Election Commission, the YSRC lost one MLC seat. The chief electoral officer had notified two vacancies in the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council, in MLAs quota, in by-elections.
But surprisingly, the Commission issued notification to conduct election to one MLC seat only. Immediately, the CEO sent a letter to the Election Commission informing about one more seat, but the CEC did not issue notification to conduct the by-election for the second seat.
In the State Bifurcation Act, the AP Legislative Council was allotted 17 MLCs, from MLAs quota and in the AP Legislative Council 16 MLCs from the MLAs quota. If the by-elections were conducted for two seats from MLAs’ quota, both the YSRC and the TD would have got one seat each.
