Hyderabad: In what might not go down well with the Telangana state government, the chairman of the newly formed Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Prof. T. Papi Reddy was not invited to the admissions committee meeting held by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) on Wednesday.
Principal Secretary of the Telangana Higher Education Department Vikas Raj had written to the APSCHE on Tuesday asking them to formally invite Prof Papi Reddy to the admissions committee meeting. However, no invite was extended to Prof. Reddy and he too stayed away from the meeting.
He met Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao and participated in the anniversary celebrations of TRS ideologue Prof. Jayashankar.
No reason was given but sources said that the APSCHE did not recognise his standing as the TSCHE chairman as the former is mandated to conduct counselling by the SC and according to the AP Re-organisation Act. The Telangana state government was represented by Mr Raj and Technical Education Commissioner Shailaja Ramaiyer. The TS government is is also miffed since Mr Rao had said in Karimnagar on Tuesday that Prof. Reddy will take counselling forward for Telangana. A senior official said, “TS had written on Tuesday night that Prof. Reddy be invited but no formal invitation was sent.”
A senior official said, “Telangana government had written on Tuesday night itself that Prof Papi Reddy be invited but no formal invitation was sent to him. He also met only the Chief Minister and stayed away after that.”
Prof Papi Reddy was expected to reach the APSCHE building and take charge as the TSCHE Chairman on Wednesday but did not do so. After participating in the celebrations, he went to Secretariat to take part in the meeting on Eamcet held by Chandrasekhar Rao. He was appointed as chairman by the Telangana government on Tuesday.
