Telangana seeks more time for Eamcet counselling
SC to hear Telangana concerns over starting counselling without decision on fee reimbursement

Hyderabad: Eamcet counselling will commence from Thursday in Andhra Pradesh but not in Telangana as the TS government has sought some more time to begin the process.
The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) announced on Wednesday that counselling would go according to the notification issued earlier: certificate verification will be taken up from August 7 to August 23.
The Telangana state government, however, said the counselling would begin in a few days without specifying the exact dates. The admissions committee of the APSCHE held a meeting on Wednesday, which unlike the earlier one, was attended by Telangana Education department officials.
Prof. L. Venugopal Reddy, chairman, APSCHE, said, “Certification verification will begin on Thursday and end by August 23. The entire counselling procedure will be completed by August 31 and classes will begin from September 1. Even if there is one or two days’ delay, the procedure will begin and end in time.”
“Telangana state government officials said that they needed two more days to begin certificate verification since helpline centres were not yet ready. The notification is also to be taken to the notice of the TS government officially. They may begin from August 10 but they assured that counselling in Telangana would be completed by the end of this month,” a senior official said.
Andhra Pradesh students can attend certificate verification in 34 counselling centres located in AP from Thursday while the other 23 centres in Telangana region will remain non-functional until the state government begins counselling.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao met the education minister and department officials at the Secretariat to discuss the Eamcet counselling issue following the recent Supreme Court interim directions about completing Eamcet counselling by August 31.
When asked about counselling in Telangana after the meeting, Shailaja Ramaiyer, commissioner, Technical Education department, Telangana, said, “We need a few more days to begin counselling. We will finalise the schedule in one or two days.”
With the case coming up before the SC on August 11, there are indications that the government may commence counselling from August 10 and inform the same to the apex court on August 11.
Mr Rao has directed officials to present strong arguments before the apex court on August 11 about the concerns of the Telangana government regarding holding counselling without deciding who was eligible for the FAST scheme.
