Army probes ‘rape’ charge on Colonel by US doctor
The incident is alleged to have occurred sometime last year in the US
Hyderabad: The Army has ordered an inquiry after an Indian-American woman in the United States levelled allegations of rape against an officer of the rank of Colonel, who was at that time posted as the military attaché at India’s permanent mission at the United Nations in New York.
The incident is alleged to have occurred sometime last year in the US when the officer was posted there. The alleged victim is a doctor by profession who has complained to the Indian government and the Army.
“We have received the complaint from the concerned woman. The Army is conducting an inquiry into the allegations. There is no further comment at this stage,” Army sources confirmed to this newspaper.
The officer subsequently returned to India and is now posted at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, sources said. If found true, the explosive allegations have the potential of causing massive embarrassment to India at the international level.
