Coimbatore police seized the cash from TNCC vice president R. Radhakrishnan

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore police seized Rs 1 crore cash from Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) vice president R. Radhakrishnan during a vehicle check conducted at the Sanganoor check post on Mettupalayam road on Wednesday evening.

The money has been handed over to the income tax department for further probe, police said. 

On Wednesday evening, Radhakrishnan who is engaged in real estate business met his partner Aruputharaj and received Rs 1 crore, which is said to be the commission for settling  a real estate business  at Kavundampalayam. 

After the meeting, Radhakrishnan was returning to home from Kavundmapalayam in a car with the huge amount, when a team of police from Saibaba Colony police station stopped his car on Mettupalayam road and found a bundle of currencies in a bag.

Immediately, Radhakrishnan was taken to the police station and interrogated. 

The Saibaba Colony police inspector Salairam Sakthivel informed the income tax officials. Immediately three inspectors of I-T department rushed to the police station and grilled Radhakrishnan.

The officials of income tax department seized the bundles of cash from the car.

However, the Congress functionary insisted that the cash had not been sourced in violation of law and he would produce the relevant documents to prove that it was not black money.
