Coimbatore: Chief education officer A.Gnanagowri has convened a meeting of the school heads on August 8 to stop the culture of students purchasing readymade project models to score marks in their assessments.

“Both matriculation and state board schools have been repeatedly instructed that the project work should not incur any cost and the 40 marks that is usually allotted for Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation activities should be based on the creativity of the student and his capacity to comprehend the concepts,” the CEO said.

Denouncing the practice of picking up over-the-counter projects, the CEO said she had called a meeting of all school headmasters and headmistresses to discuss ways to put an end to this unacceptable practice.

The DC had exposed the rampant practice of “pay and purchase” project models instead of students using their own creative skills to prepare their own models. Shops which sell ready made models have sprouted in Town Hall and Flower market to serve the project needs of the students. The meeting to be held on August 8.
