Bengaluru: A criminal complaint was lodged against a social activist Prabha Belavangala by another activist Vijay Kumar for posting comments on Facebook hurting Hindu sentiments. The complaint has been registered at Halasoor police station on August 3.
According to the complaint Prabha had posted a disparaging comment that certain religious community, who assume the higher caste clout (like that of purohiths), who are unproductive, useless and of no benefit to the society, are holding on to the tufts of hairs of the actual hard working people such as scientists, doctors, engineers, farmers and labourers and ruling them.
It may be recalled that V.R. Bhat who re-posted a reply for this comment with his derogatory remarks was arrested last week and is still in Basavangudi police custody. Bhatt had written on his Facebook post that activists like Prabha should be held by their hair and raped. There were multiple complaints registered against him in many police stations after he posted the rape comment on the social networking platform.
In the complaint against Prabha, it was stated that the accused was responsible for outraging the religious feelings as the Facebook post denigrated worship, rituals, and the practice of Hinduism itself.
Sections 295-A and 153-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were slapped against Prabha for deliberate and malicious act, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs and for promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.
