Duvvur (Kadapa):A major mishap was averted as the locals quickly  came to the rescue of children trapped in an overcrowded bus which overturned near Sangati Dimmayapalle in Duvvurmandal in Kadapa district on Wednesday.

The private school bus was carrying more than 80 children against its actual capacity of 60. Sources said Guru Shankaracharya Private School of Gudipadu had hired the school bus to pick up and drop children from the nearby villages every day.

On Wednesday evening, about 80 children were travelling in the bus as it went around dropping children to their homes in Sangati Dimmayapalle, Bheemunipadu, Annapusasthra Palle and other adjacent areas. On its way to Sangatidimmaya Palle via Bheemunipadu, the driver  tried to cross a congested road across a canal, but the front tyre of the right side slipped and the bus fell on its right side.

Scared children in the bus shouted for help and fortunately people from surrounding areas rushed to the spot. They broke the glass window panes and doors as they were jammed. All students were rescued.

A few suffered minor injuries. Duvvur sub-inspector Khaja Miya rushed  to the spot and supervised the rescue operations. SI said a case has been registered against the school management as it allowed the bus to carry so many students.
