Tasmac told to submit provident fund forms: Madras High Court

Statutorily prescribed forms, giving employees names and details were not furnished

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Tasmac to submit requisite forms, giving names and details of the contract employees, to the provident fund authorities within two weeks.     

Justice D. Hariparanthaman, who gave the directive, said, “If this is not done, the matter will be viewed very seriously and this court will be constrained to issue directions to the Provident Fund authorities to launch prosecution against theTasmac for not furnishing complete details of the contract employees.” The judge posted to August 18 further hearing of the petition filed by TasmacSumai Thookkum Thozhilalar Union represented by its president K Elavari. The matter related to the remittance of contribution towards Provident Fund for the contract employees.

The judge said that the counsel for the Provident Fund department stated that with great difficulty, the authorities had been able to recover contributions from the Tasmac. But according to the counsel, the statutorily prescribed forms, giving names and details of the employees, were not furnished, and therefore, the department was not able to understand to whose benefit the contributions were made and therefore Tasmac would have to submit the requisite forms.
