Telugu Desam clinches 16 mandal chief posts
People of Kukkunoor and Velierpad boycotted the election
Khammam: The elections to choose 39 mandal parishad chairmen were held peacefully, barring minor incidents on Wednesday.
Telugu Desam bagged 16 mandal parishad chairman posts, followed by the Congress (8), CPM (5) and two each by the YSR Congress, CPI and CPI-(ML) New Democracy.
Elections to the three MPPs of Paloncha, Kothagudem and Raghunathapalem were postponed due to lack of quorum.
An Independent won in Bayyaram MPP election by making use of the differences between two splinter groups of New Democracy.
Tense situation prevailed during the election of Enkoor MPP chairman due to differences in the Telugu Desam. The two TD groups engaged in fisticuffs. Finally, the TD candidate won the MPP post with the support of the Congress MPTCs.
Telugu Desam managed to win in Tallada, Penuballi, Kalluru, Sattupalli, Vemsoor, Errupalem, Nelakondapalli, Charla, Venkatapuram, Vazedu, Aswaraopet, Dammapet, Aswapuram, Chandrugonda, Enkoor and Julurpad MPPs.
The Congress won Kamepalli, Karepalli, Mudigonda, Kusumanchi, Pinapaka, Tekulapalli and Tirumalayapalem chairmen posts.
On the other hand, the CPM bagged the three MPPs of Chintoor, V.R. Puram and Kunavaram out of the seven mandals that were transferred to Andhra Pradesh.
Election to the Burgumpahad and Bhadrachalam MPPs were not held due to the division of these mandals as per the AP Reorganisation Act. The people of Kukkunoor and Velierpad boycotted the election.
