BJP’s politics or KLE Society’s?

Belgaum: While some believe the BJP’s risky decision to field KLE director, Mahantesh Kavatgimath for the Chikkodi-Sadalga bypoll, is the result of a secret understanding between the Hukkeris and Kattis to see Mr Ganesh Hukkeri of the Congress make it to the Assembly, others have put another spin on it.

They claim Mr Kavatgimath's choice is a deliberate attempt to promote BJP leader, Prabhakar Kore's son, Amit Kore as KLE Society chairman.

An MLC from Chikkodi, Mr Kavatgimath has vast experience in politics and in the field of cooperatives, but is no match for the Kattis or Hukkeris in the constituency. His chances of winning are therefore seen as slim.

Interestingly, his father, Mallayyaswami was instrumental in making Mr Prabhakar Kore chairman of KLE Society three decades ago and he himself is one of his closest associates, the former having  played a major role in making him an MLC.

But now it appears things may have changed.  Seeing how popular and powerful Mr Kavatgimath is as  KLE Society director, Mr Prabhakar Kore is reportedly afraid he could be a strong contender for the top post should he step down.
