Chennai: A Bill seeking to regulate hostels, lodging houses and homes for women and children, and other institutions, making it mandatory to obtain licences/registration and compulsory safety and security measures was introduced in the State Assembly on Friday.
Introducing the Bill, the Tamil Nadu Hostels and Homes for Women and Children (Regulation) Act, 2014, social welfare minister B. Valarmathi said no hostels or homes for women and children could be run without licence from the collector who is also empowered to revoke them.
Every home, which is established, registered or maintained under any other law on or after the commencement of this said Act, should be registered under the aid Act. However, this would not apply for homes established or run by the government.
