Hyderabad Civic Body to fund the disabled

The GHMC has set aside Rs 9 crore for disabled

Hyderabad:The GHMC has set aside Rs 9 crore from this year to cater to over 17,000 differently abled students across Hyderabad under the Disability Welfare Fund. Initially, the Rs 5 crore fund was part of Vikasam wing. It has now been increased to Rs 9 crore. Many students registered to avail benefits like automated wheelchairs, tablets to aid studies, hearing aids, crutches and more. 
 
“This is the first time that we have started a Budget exclusively for the disabled. They are a great asset and we are trying to provide resources to help them in studies. Depending on their disability and after shortlisting them, we will give assistance,” said D. Jayaraj Kennedy, additional commissioner, Urban Community Development.
