London: Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini insists the club’s target of winning five trophies in five years isn’t important to him.
City chief executive Ferran Soriano underlined the ambitious plans of the team’s Abu Dhabi-based owners just before Pellegrini was hired in May 2013. Former Real Madrid boss Pellegrini showed no signs of being intimidated by that demand for success as City won the Premier League title and the League Cup in the Chilean’s first season in English football.
Asked ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Arsenal if he had ever been worried about living up to City’s lofty goals, Pellegrini said, “I don’t have a target to win five titles.
“Every time I play a competition, I want to win it. But that thing that we have to win five titles in five years, for me it is not important,” Pellegrini added.
“For this year, our target is exactly the same as last year,” he added.
