Hyderabad: The Polavaram project files have been missing, according to a reply filed by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to a RTI petition. The petition filed by a city resident, D. Suresh Kumar, on June 12, seeking details of the environment clearance of the Indira Sagar Polavaram Project.

The Ministry replied: “The information sought by you is presently not traceable in the Ministry. Best efforts are being made to trace the same. Once the said documents are traced, a copy of the same will be provided.”

The reply was signed by H.C. Chaudhary, director and the Ministry’s chief public information officer. RTI activist Rakesh Reddy Dubbudu said, “How can files of such an important project be untraceable? Sometime ago, an RTI activist from Vizag had filed for the same information, and he received a positive reply. It definitely looks like a conspiracy.”
