New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to match his “tryst with destiny” moment on Independence Day with that of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru when the nation attained freedom 67 years ago. Not only does Mr Modi plan to deliver his speech extempore, he will also set the tone on how to take the country to “greater commanding heights.”

There are indications that besides focusing on certain “deliverable” items in real terms, the PM will ensure that Veer Savarkar’s name finds prominent place among top freedom movement heroes like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh in his first speech from Delhi’s Red Fort that is likely to last nearly an hour.
