Election Comission to delimit MLC seats in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

After delimitation, elections will be conducted to fill 13 LAC seats

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India is set to delimit the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seats that went off the balance post bifurcation.

The Chief Electoral Officer for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state, Mr Bhanwar Lal, has written to the ECI to give out an order to initiate the process as per the AP Reorganisation Act, giving out 50 MLC seats to AP and 40 to Telangana state.

In the process, the ECI will reduce three Local Authority Constituency (LAC) of Andhra Pradesh and will add to Telangana state.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Bhanwar Lal said, “As per the constitutional law the state should have at least 40 MLC seats. With this adjustment, the Andhra Pradesh will have 17 LAC seats against the present 20 and Telangana state will have 14 LAC seats against existing 11.”

After the delimitation process the CEO will conduct election to fill up 13 LAC seats in both states.
