Movie Review 'Lovers': No chemistry between ‘Lovers’
The film is worth a watch just for Saptagiri’s histrionics
Cast: Sumanth Ashwin, Nanditha, Tejaswini, Shamili and Sai Pampana
Director: Harinath
Rating: ***
Sumanth Ashwin and Nanditha have been paired in Lovers. Maruthi provides the story, screenplay and dialogues for this film. Harinath is the debutant director of this low-budget film.
Siddhu (Sumanth Ashwin) is a smart college boy who is looking for a girl. He finds Geetha (Tejaswini), but after some time, they break up and Siddhu falls in love with another girl Soumya (Shamili), but this time too there is a break-up.
Later Siddhu finds that one Chitra Subramanyam (Nanditha) is the reason behind these break ups. He wants to take revenge on Chitra, but does not know who she is or what she looks like. On the other hand, Chitra also hates Siddhu. She too has never seen him.
In the meantime, Siddhu falls in love with a girl, and much later discovers she is none other than Chitra. The remaining story is whether both remain together or exact revenge on each other.
Maruthi has done the story, screenplay and dialogues but only succeeded in parts. Except for the character played by Saptagiri, the dialogues lack punch and most of them are routine. The first half of the film is boring. The chemistry between the lead actor and the girls does not sizzle. The story is also predictable.
Sumanth Ashwin looks good and did well, but there is scope for improvement. Nanditha too come up with a decent performance. Tejaswini, Shamili and Chandini appear in cameos, but they have done a good job. Sai Pampana has a lengthy role and he justifies it. The music is just okay. But the entire movie belongs to comedian Saptagiri.
He comes in the second half and keeps the audience in splits. He has become a junior Brahmanandam and steals the show. The film is worth a watch just for Saptagiri’s histrionics.
