Chitradurga: Minister for social welfare department and district in-charge Mr. H. Anjaneya said that the government is planning to celebrate 'Durgotsava -2014' in the month of November this year. He disclosed this to reporters after unfurling the national flag to mark Independence Day celebrations at the Science college ground here on Friday. The minister stated that district level officers' meeting would be convened shortly to discuss the preparations for the utsav. Though the utsav was being celebrated every year, it was stopped in the last few years due to various technical reasons including the severe drought, he said.
This time, Durgotsava would be celebrated by taking everyone into confidence and to ensure that a platform is given to local artists to exhibit their talent and rich culture of the district. “We have information that some of the taluks in the district have not received sufficient rainfall this year. The district administration has been instructed to provide a detailed report in this regard and the same would be brought to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to declare taluks with scanty rainfall as drought-hit and take up relief work on a war footing,” Anjaneya explained.
The scarcity of water in the district would be completely solved after the completion of Upper Bhadra Project. Hence a meeting of officers would be convened shortly to discuss steps to complete the project on time. As the union government has been requested to consider the Upper Bhadra Project as a national scheme and provide financial assistance to complete it, there are plans to take a delegation of the elected representatives from the state to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.
