Collectors felicitate freedom fighters

Chennai: Distribution of welfare aid and honouring freedom fighters marked the 68th Independence Day celebrations in the districts on Friday.
Kancheepuram district collector K. Baskaran unfurled the national flag, inspected a guard of honour by police personnel, school and college students and honoured freedom fighters with shawls.
Total welfare aid worth Rs 13.71 lakh was distributed to 124 beneficiaries at the function which was held on the premises of the collectorate. Kancheepuram Range DIG K. N. Sathyamurthy and SP C. Vijayakumar were present.
In Tiruvallur district, collector K. Veera Raghava Rao hoisted the tricolour in the presence of SP Saravanan and DRO Muthu at the Collectorate. After inspecting the guard of honour, the Collector honoured freedom fighters and distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 28 lakh to beneficiaries selected under various schemes.
Vellore collector Dr R. Nandhagopal distributed welfare aid worth Rs 2.40 crore to beneficiaries during Independence Day celebrations held at the Government Nethaji Stadium here on Friday.
He honoured freedom fighters and social activists with shawls after unfurling the national flag. Vellore DIG Tamilchandran and SP Vijayakumar attended the function along with DRO Manivannan.
In Cuddalore, collector S. Suresh Kumar hoisted the national flag and inspected the guard of honour at Anna Stadium in Manjakuppam.
The collectors distributed welfare assistance worth Rs 78.96 lakh to a total of 115 people and also distributed awards and certificates to 129 government officials and 10 police officials for their services.
